Humor never comes bad a the first step in any challenge. It makes us be favorable and allows good ideas to come. And if in addition its purpose is to make us think, then it is always useful and welcomed. The beginning could not be better.

Similar opinions were shared by those who attended and organized the first Provincial Press Festival Julio Velis López In Memoriam. With this event the delegation from the Journalist Union of Cuba (UPEC) in Cienfuegos paid a tribute to a professional who was an example in his career and in the local press.

Because, the first of three days devoted to the festival on January 22nd, 23rd and 24th will be devoted to caricature and to the 16th anniversary of the humor newspaper La Picúa.

To that effect, the UPEC and Cienfuegos´ Provincial Museum called to the 15th Hall of Graphic Humor La Picúa, which admission date was until last January 15th and several humor works were received including general humor, comics and personal caricatures.

The opening and the presentation of the awards at the 15th Provincial Graphic Humor Hall La Picúa are conceived for January 22nd at 2:00 pm at Cienfuegos´ Provincial Musem and it will be one of the most important days during the event to be opened with a caricature exhibition by the Trinidad artist Daniel Acevo Rodríguez, at the Juan David Hall from the Cinco de Septiembre newspaper at 9:30 a.m.

Half an hour later the drawer Arístides Hernández Guerrero (ARES) will deliver a lecture on Cuban caricatures at the headquarters of “Cinco de Septiembre”.

Later, at 11.00 a.m, the most important activities will be promoted and caricature artists from the province as well as others from the rest of the country will share some time with the audience a Painting moment at the city´s pedestrian street.

Among the caricature artists that have been invited to the event are Ramsés Morales Izquierdo, Alfredo Martirena Hernández and the rest by the Melaíto team, humor newspaper from Villa Clara.

So that, convinced of what a good humor is, the UPEC in Cienfuegos is now ready to celebrate on next days the Provincial Press Festival Julio Velis López In Memoriam.
