More tan two million and a half books will be for sale on next International Book Fair in Cuba, to be celebrated from February 13th to March 9th and Ecuador will be the honored country.
160 guests from 23 countries and 130 foreign expositors will attend to the fair and will have access to stands in more than 2 thousand square meters at the castle of San Carlos de la Cabaña, in Havana, according to information given by the event´s general director Eduardo Fernández.
More than the 75% of the titles are ready for their market release. In addition to that it has been informed that more than 700 new titles will be available for the readers as well as 32 titles from the invited country, Ecuador. The fair will also include some classics from the 18th and 19th centuries.
The event will be also devoted to Cuban writer Nersys Felipe, National
Literature Award 2011; and to historian Rolando Rodríguez, Social Sciences national Award 2008.
An in addition to that there will be also a colloque about the life and work of both from February 15th to 16th.
The University of Havana will be a second venue for the first time and in additionto book selling it will be also the host to colloques devoted to social sciences, exact sciences and another colloque devoted to the 19th century Cuban writer Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda.
Among the theoretical spaces there will be one colloque devoted to anthropology and sociology at Casa de las Américas, a colloque devoted to the environment, a librarians´ encounter and a colloque devoted to literature for children and young persons.
Award presentations, encounters with the writers, editors, translators, researchers, literary agents and other professionals will be included at the event´s agenda, which is one of the most important cultural events in the island.
This year from February 13th to 23rd in Havana and until March 9th in the rest of the country. The first edition of the book fair was carried out in 1982 and nowadays it is the most important event in Cuba´s editorial world.
