The Tropicana Cabaret to celebrate its 75th anniversary

The famous cabaret Tropicana celebrated its 75th anniversary on December 31st. This cabaret has a long celebrity tradition, color and it is Havana´s main cabaret. His stage witnessed the work by Cuban and international stars including Rita Montaner and Ignacio Villa "Bola de Nieve".  Other major personalities were the star Josephine Baker with her hip movement and her waving steps that were taken from that moment on as the lead for the dance team and Tropicana´s extras.

During the late 30s there were some ideas of creating a night club in Marianao, to a corner a place called Villa Mina which was a property of the widow of Chaumont de Truffin who finally decided to lease some lands in that place to create such night club. So, on December 31st 1939 this cabaret was opened as a space for recreation and good art, and it came to life with great expectations by Havana´s wealthiest families in that time.

It initially started with 300 seats and then it was expanded to more than a thousand including tables and reduced spaces. In 1950 the Cuban sculptor Rita Longa - already dead - finished and place at the entrance of the cabaret the figure of a ballet dancer which turned into the symbol of this place and became the topic for an award (Tropicana Award)

But Tropicana is not only the hall "Under the Stars" there are also some other areas like "The gardens" - the former casino - with violins and piano, the bar-restaurant La Fuente and some coffee shops. There is also a fountain called The Fountain of the Muses (or Nymphs) bought by the cabaret back to 1952.  The rhythm of a 100 thousand clients per year - especially Spanish, Italians, Germans and French - gave to this place a sort of immortality banner showing the best of the Cuban culture and tourism.
