Cienfuegos increased the cultural offers in 2014

The culture sector in Cienfuegos worked to increase the quality and diversity of the cultural offers for the audience in local communities and institutions during 2014.  Odalys González Acea, the province´s culture director said to the press that from an original plan of 999 activities the province could carry out more than a thousand for a 119%. Among the cultural offers there were 50 artistic performances and more than 350 concerts in closed and opened areas, including the concert offered by the Salvadorian singer Álvaro Torres.

Other major events were the Theater Critic Event, the Rufo Caballero Visual Arts Encounter of Critics, the Surimagen event and Timbalaye of which Cienfuegos will play host next year. The first colloque "Por Los Caminos de la Música", the Cinco de Septiembre Humor Graphic Hall, the 7th Edition of the "Boleros de Oro Festival, the Art Naive Hall, and the Monologue Festival had an international character for the first time.

Cienfuegos also hosted the 12th Dance Season with presentations of Circuba and Cuban humorists. The Benny Moré Art School increased its participation in extracurricular activities as CD or DVD recording to the chamber orchestra Solfados at the Abdala Studios, as well as its participation at the National Workshop on Artistic Teaching and at the CARICOM Chiefs of State Summit.

Despite all these positive results, there were some failures in the design and execution of the main cultural activities in the municipalities of Cruces and Palmira, as well as the image, building state, technological availability and transportation of several cultural institutions. In 2015, the cultural sector in Cienfuegos will continue its investment at Prado movie theater and will start the building works at Lajas´ Benny Moré Cultural Square as well as the rehabilitation of the theater of Cruces.
