Linen, silversmith, papier-mâché, pottery, wood, fiber, metal, stones... translated into several and unimagibale objects shaped by the hands of the Cuban artits and those of artosts from 12 Latin American countries, Asia and Europe. These works cover all the halls at PABEXPO during the 18th edition of the International Handicraft Fair 2014 which was opened yesterday until December 21st and it will be devoted to the province of Guantánamo.
While opening this space - presided by the Heroes of the Republic, generals Samuel Rodiles Planas and Arnaldo Tamayo - Jorge Alfonso García, director of the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods (FCBC) said that this edition of FIART will be carried out in a moment in which there are significant changes in the Cuban economy and entrepreneur system. And the FCB, has a double mission - economical and cultural - and so it incorporates to new roles to attract the Cuban enterprises and the talent of Cuban artisans, designers and artists which have been historically worked with the fund".
During the ceremony, a jury composed by Lesbia Vent Dumois, president of UNEAC´s Plastic Arts Section, Rosa Juampere, vice president of ACAA, Surnai Benítez, FCBC adviso and Mercy Correa, director of the Handicraft National Center, decided to present the recognitions for the work of a live to: Lourdes Chiang, an artisan that has worked to rescue the miñardí technique and Oscar Corona, due to his work in frames.
The tickets to FIART 2014 can be bought at PABEXPO which will be opened to the audience from 11:00 am to 7:00pm.
