The Jagua Castle will be opened again

The Jagua Castle received a restoration process since 2008 and will be opened again to the public on October 20th to celebrate the Day of the Cuban Culture.  The castle has received a restoration in its front bridge, the only one in the country that still works. The restoration also included the main stair that connects with the two main levels.

One of the hardest works was done on a reservoir with a capacity of 100sm of rain water gathered by using a sofisticated system.  The restoration also included the museum with its seven permanent halls and the itinerant one. For this purpose a new musem design has been put into practice according to the relevance of the only Spanish fortress in Central Cuba during the 18th century.

Marisol Otero Álvarez, director of the institution, declared that the halls will be lived with objects, documents and models from the periods that are related with our first inhabitants, the corsairs and the first commanders of the castle and the sea heritage.  The director also added that The Chapel, the first of its kind in the are counts with a fresco that was created in the 1830s and recently restored by experts from the National Heritage Council.

Along with the reopening, the celebrations on October 20th will arrive to neighborhoods and communities like Yaguaramas, one of Cuba´s oldest towns.  There wil be cinema cycles as well, which will be carried out on rural video halls. The people will be also enjoy book presentations, photographic exhibits and dance festivals in every municipality.  Noemí Montalván Chávez, in charge of the Provincial Culture Directorate, added that the number 14th of the Ariel magazine will be released in several prisons from the provinces.  In that sense, the Cuban Association of Artisan Artists in Cienfuegos will host the 13th hall "handmade" as a tribute to the Day of the Cuban Culture.
