Nominations for conservation and restoration awards in Cienfuegos announced



The Provincial Center of Cultural Heritage and the Office of Monuments and Historic Sites in Cienfuegos, announced as this year's nominee for the Provincial Conservation Award, the private home of Georgina Suarez Alvarez Suarez, built in 1929 in the  "Loma Boba" farm in the community La Sierrita, and in the category of Restoration they chose in 2021 the Provincial Library Roberto Garcia Valdes.

Clara Soto Bermúdez, director of the Office of Monuments and Historic Sites in the territory, Radio Ciudad del Mar station that the property recognized in the Conservation section has a remarkable level of preservation, both in its architectural part and in its furniture, equipment, instruments and tools, typical of the rural tradition.

The specialist also said that the Provincial Library awarded in the Restoration category was nominated for the quality, magnitude and thoroughness of the investment made, and for demonstrating respect for the originality and recovery of the value of use.


The Roberto García Valdés Library, a National Monument, is an important building in the historic urban center of the provincial capital, located within the seventy hectares declared a World Cultural Heritage Site in 2005.

The representative of the Office of Monuments and Historic Sites in Cienfuegos said that the house of the "Loma Boba" Farm, nominated for the Conservation Award, is also a valuable exponent of vernacular architecture; today it is one of the buildings investigated by the Site Museum of Medicinal Plants, for its historical and patrimonial values.
