Birth and closure of a legend

Late 90s were a very interesting phenomenon that internationalized traditional Cuban music and become a cult over the next two decades: the birth of Buena Vista Social Club, which gathered in a collective project several stars of the island, and gave the world the obvious worth of Cuban music made in the island during more than six decades and at that time had not reached maximum broadcasting in the country. The Buena Vista Social Club (BSC) bid farewell to the stage with two recent concerts at the Karl Marx theatre by leaving behind a trail of questions and lessons, especially for those who somehow are related to criticism, promotion and recording of Cuban music.

The Caribbean´s cultural diversity

Lecture on June 2nd 2016, in Havana, during the 7th Summit of the Caribbean States Association. 

As we know, the most conventional definition of the Caribbean is the one from the Bahamas Islands to Trinidad and the continental enclaves like Belize, Guyana, Suriname and the French Guyana. There are authors who state that the notion of a Caribbean Region was invented by the United States at the end of the 19th century as the result of its economic and military expansion in the area.

What are they talking about?

In relation to the successful presentation of the Rolling Stones in Cuba, most of the foreign news agencies have abounded with the meaning that such performance had for our people, but also regarding the emotions of the legendary British band for the affection given by such a huge audience made by Cubans and foreigners that came just to see the concert, but mostly regarding all Cubans who came to the Sports City.
