Cuba is a traditionally religious country A religious spirituality throbs - along with other elements- within its cultural tradition. Just a few seconds before midnight she bows next to the ceiba tree - Iroko, the sacred tree - and she pays a tribute while whispering something that just the can understand. You stare at them but they remain motionless. Some other person eyes their chests to look for a movement revealing their breath. But both snoopers get tired after a few minutes. They know this statue is not real because it was not there yesterday. But during the afternoon the statues appear. They can be a young woman selling medicinal plants, a photographer, a French lady or even Don Luis de Clouet - the founder of the village of Fernandina de Jagua. All of them are motionless like frozen by time.
